In Memoriam
Rebecca Hewitt
1974 – 2011
On Thursday, February 10, 2011 we lost a cherished member of our family, Rebecca (Schall) Hewitt, age 36. Becky died at home after a courageous battle against cancer, but leaves an enduring legacy of hope.
Born September 19, 1974 in Bismarck, North Dakota, Becky was a graduate of New Ulm Public High School in New Ulm, Minnesota and Hightec Institute. On March 29, 2003, she was united in marriage to Dan Hewitt, the oldest son of Linda and Larry Hewitt, founders of Hewitt Machine & Manufacturing. Dan and Becky had two daughters, Kalley and Taylor. Together, they made their home in North Mankato, Minnesota.
Those who knew Becky admired her zest for life. It was apparent in her work as a nurse and in her widely diverse interests that ranged from the excitement of drag racing and snowmobiling to the quieter moments of scrapbooking and sharing time with family and friends. When Becky was diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago, her spirit was not diminished. In 2008, she created Team "Becky's Hope" to support the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure Campaign. She participated with her team from 2008-2010, and was honored as the top fund raiser in both 2009 and 2010. Becky would be proud to know the team she started will once again be walking in 2011. We are sure she is by the side of every person facing the challenge of cancer and those who give of themselves to find the ultimate cure. |
